Coaxial Cable (a.k.a. coax)

Coaxial Cable (a.k.a. coax) - a cable that has a single centre copper conductor surrounded by an insulating material that is covered with another conductive material, usually a braid or shield, and then wrapped in an overall jacket. Coaxial cable is typically used for video distribution of TV, satellite, video and CCTV images. Coaxial cables are designated by their overall impedance, but the naming process bears no relation to this. For example RG-58 cable has an impedance of 50 ohms, while RG-62 has an impedance of 93 ohms.
